How Long Does It Take for Replacing Roof Shingles In Raleigh?
All roofs are different, and therefore, there are several factors that go into determining how long it takes to replace a roof. But before we dive into the specifics, let us answer your question: A full roof installation typically takes about 1-5 days to complete, depending on complexity, size, shape, etc.
But when someone is hammering on your roof for hours at a time, the difference between 1 day and 5 days can seem huge. So what can make a roofing project take longer?
Materials
The factor you, the consumer, have the biggest control over is the type of material used to replace your roof.
At Carolina Exteriors, we specialize in asphalt shingles by CertainTeed and Owens Corning. They are the most cost-effective roofing material, with high durability at a lower price point, great warranties, and a great return on investment.
An added bonus is that they also have the fastest installation of any roofing material, taking a fraction of the time it takes to install a roof made of wood shakes, metal, or tile.
Weather
(You knew this was coming.) One of the biggest factors that can affect the overall timeline of a roofing project is the weather.
When scheduling installations, we track temperatures and weather patterns in your area and look for several days of clear, mild weather. A roof cannot be properly installed if it’s raining, snowing, freezing, or even when it’s too hot. So on the many days where conditions are suboptimal, we have to take extra steps to ensure that the final product is up to our standards.
And as every North Carolinian knows, the only thing predictable about our weather is that it’s unpredictable. If the weather takes an unexpected turn on your scheduled installation day, our project managers will work with you to reschedule as soon as possible.
Size & Complexity
The overall size and complexity of your roof can make a big difference in the time it takes to complete your roof replacement.
Is your home around 1200 square feet? Does your roof have a “walkable” pitch, with less than five roof facets? Chances are good that your installation will only take a day or two (weather permitting).
Or does your roof have an unusually steep pitch? Do you have some interesting architectural features? Are there hips and valleys? How many facets of varying angles are there? These are just examples of things that add complexity, and therefore may add extra time to your project.
Accessibility
Finally, how accessible is your roof? Are the safe access points close to a paved surface? Or is access limited by fences and landscaping?
We take great care to leave every part of your home (except the roof) the way we found it. But if our crews have to work around a fences, large rows of bushes or any other encumbrances, or if there isn’t a paved area close to the house to make it easier for our crew to get the old materials off the roof and into the dumpster, or get the new materials off the truck and up to your roof…These are all factors that could lengthen the overall timeline by a few hours, or even an extra day.
Our top two priorities at all times are the safety of our crew and the quality of our work. So if your home presents more complexity than the norm, we’re going to give our crew enough time to get the job done safely, and get it done right.
